The Bodhrán Buzz Sessions: Learn, Play & Join the Craic

Ever fancied learning to play the bodhrán?

This November, Bodhrán Buzz Sessions are coming to the Man O’War Pub in Balbriggan, giving complete beginners the chance to pick up a bodhrán, learn some traditional Irish rhythms and experience the buzz of playing music together.

Starting Thursday, November 5th, the six-week series is led by Robbie Walsh, with a different guest musician joining each week. Whether you’ve never held a bodhrán before or you’ve only just started experimenting with one, these sessions are designed to be relaxed, friendly and welcoming.

Learn the Bodhrán from the Basics

Buzz Sessions

You don’t need any previous musical experience to get involved. The sessions are all about learning at your own pace, building confidence and, most importantly, having fun.

Over the six weeks, Robbie will introduce you to the fundamentals of playing the bodhrán, from getting comfortable with the instrument and learning basic rhythms to playing along with traditional Irish music.

And you won’t just be learning on your own. Each week, you’ll have the chance to play alongside a different guest musician, helping you understand how the bodhrán fits into a traditional Irish music session.

It’s a great way to learn, meet other budding musicians and get a feel for the energy that comes from making music together.

A Different Guest Musician Every Week

A group of musicians

One of the highlights of the Bodhrán Buzz Sessions is having a different guest musician join Robbie each week.

As well as learning new rhythms and techniques, you’ll get to hear and play along with different musicians and discover how the bodhrán works alongside other traditional instruments.

It’s learning by doing – and there’s no better way to get a feel for traditional Irish music than by joining in yourself!

Finish with a Festive Traditional Music Session

Trad session

After six weeks of learning, it’s time to put those new skills to work!

The series will finish with a traditional music session just before Christmas, bringing everyone together for an evening of music, rhythm and plenty of craic.

It’s the perfect chance to see how far you’ve come, play alongside your fellow participants and enjoy a festive evening of traditional Irish music at the Man O’War Pub.
